NIB has signed a 15-year loan with the Finnish port Raahen Satama Oy for the expansion and development of its deep harbour.

The EUR 11 million loan will be used for the construction of a new 173-meter-long deep quay in the Deep Harbour, including necessary dredging, and creating an adjacent 6-hectare assembly field, complete with asphalting and modern lighting.

These projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2026.

NIB’s President and CEO, André Küüsvek said: “We are happy to support Raahen Satama Oy in expanding and developing its deep harbour. This investment will significantly boost the port’s capacity to handle heavy cargo, including offshore wind turbine components, and accommodate larger vessels. By enhancing infrastructure and operational efficiency, we are driving sustainable growth and supporting the transition to renewable energy.”

Raahen Satama Oy is in the City of Raahe along the coast of the Bothnian Bay. The port comprises three harbours—Lapaluoto, Deep Harbour, and the SSAB Industrial Harbour. The port’s primary cargo includes steel, timber, containers, chemicals, and bulk cargo. In addition to cargo handling, the port offers services such as areal leasing, comprehensive vessel services, and area maintenance.
