NIB has signed a SEK 700 million (approx. EUR 63.6 million) loan with Akademiska Hus AB to finance the refurbishment of educational and research facilities in Solna (Stockholm), Gothenburg and Uppsala.

The project will strengthen research productivity, expand the capacity of Sweden’s life science clusters, and support green innovation, while also delivering substantial energy-efficiency gains across the portfolio. The total project cost amounts to approximately SEK 1,400 million (around EUR 126 million).

“High-quality research environments are essential for scientific progress and industrial innovation. The upgrades will modernise key facilities across Sweden’s leading university campuses, reinforce national life science and green technology clusters, and improve the energy performance of the buildings. Together, these improvements will create modern infrastructure that benefits researchers, companies, and society at large,” said André Küüsvek, President and CEO of NIB.

The project includes the delivery of state-of-the-art laboratories and flexible office environments for the life science and green technology sectors, designed to foster closer collaboration between academia, healthcare and industry. Through the refurbishments, energy performance will improve across all buildings, with each moving up at least one energy class and several improving by up to three classes.
