NIB finances NTE’s fibre broadband expansion in Trøndelag, Norway

NIB has signed a loan agreement with Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk AS to support the roll-out of high-speed optic fibre broadband across Trøndelag county, Norway.

The loan of NOK 250 million, with a 6-year maturity, will finance Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk’s (NTE’s) investments into building optic fibre broadband connections during 2025-2027.

The project aligns with Norway’s national objective of universal broadband access, aiming to enhance service quality and reliability, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

André Küüsvek, NIB President and CEO said: “Expanding high-speed fibre broadband is essential for regional development and digital inclusion. By supporting NTE’s investment, we are helping to ensure that communities across Trøndelag have access to reliable digital infrastructure, enabling growth and innovation throughout the region.”

Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk AS is owned by 19 Trøndelag municipalities. The core business areas are energy, market, telecom, electrical, and network. The company has provided fibre broadband in Trøndelag for over 20 years.
