NIB and the property developer Kommunfastigheter i Laholm AB have signed a 25-year loan facility of SEK 140 million (EUR 13.2 million) to finance the construction of a new primary school building and a sports facility in Glänninge.
By 2035, the municipality of Laholm, located on the Swedish west coast, anticipates that it will require 1,150 additional school places due to the significant population growth the region is experiencing. To accommodate the growing number of residents, the municipality is investing in the expansion of its infrastructure and education facilities.
The loan from NIB will finance the construction of a new primary school building and an adjacent indoor sports facility in Glänninge. The Glänningeskolan replaces older school buildings and will accommodate up to 475 students.
“The return on investment in high quality childhood education is substantial. The new school building will provide a more advanced learning environment that complies with Sweden’s national core curriculum. Further, the new sports facilities will improve the physical education offered in schools”, says Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.
Both the school and sports hall will be constructed according to the Passive House Institute Standard (Darmstadt). Passive houses are energy-efficient buildings with minimized heat loss. The premises will have energy consumption levels 50% lower than the current Swedish regulatory building norm. Construction will be completed during 2019.
Kommunfastigheter i Laholm AB owns and manages properties that are leased to municipal businesses and external tenants in Laholm. The company is a subsidiary of Laholmshem AB, which is 100% owned by the municipality.
