NIB finances new pre-school buildings in Jyväskylä, Finland

NIB and the city of Jyväskylä have signed a long-term loan agreement of EUR 20 million to finance the construction of three new pre-school facilities and the renovation of an existing school.

The twenty-year loan facility will finance the construction of new day-care centres and pre-school buildings in Korpilahti, Kukkumäki and Kangasvuori, and the expansion and renovation of an existing school, Kuokkala, in Jyväskylä.

The new facilities will replace older buildings that have been demolished, and provide learning spaces for 1,940 pre-school and school children in the region.

The new schools will offer multi-purpose classrooms that allow for flexible and adaptable space solutions, and support self-directed and co-operative learning activities in line with Finland’s national core curriculum for early childhood education.

“The construction of state-of-the-art pre-school facilities will allow Jyväskylä to accommodate the increasing demand for child care and the growing number of students in compulsory education”, says Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.

The investment programme covers construction and renovation work during 2016–2019.

Jyväskylä has a population of approximately 140,000 and is the largest city in central Finland. The region is one of the fastest growing in the country, and an important educational centre.
