NIB-financed LNG reloading station opens in Klaipeda, Lithuania

On 27 October, AB Klaipedos Nafta opened an onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) reloading station, a project co-financed with a EUR 20 million loan from NIB. The LNG reloading station is intended to supply natural gas for customers in the Baltic Sea region.

The LNG reloading station operates five tanks with a total capacity of 5,000 cubic metres to store LNG before it is transported to recipients in the Baltic countries and north-eastern Poland. According to Klaipedos Nafta, the first deliveries have already been dispatched to customers. The trial operations and commissioning works, however, will continue until the end of the year.

The new reloading station expands the LNG infrastructure at the Port of Klaipeda. In December 2014, Klaipedos Nafta inaugurated an LNG terminal that was a major step to open up the gas market in the Baltic countries to competition and secure the supply.
