NIB finances improved railway services in southern Sweden

NIB and Region Skåne have signed a loan agreement totalling SEK 1,000 million (EUR 112 million) to finance the purchase of 49 new trains. The southernmost region of Sweden, Skåne, thus offers passengers more comfortable and greener rail travel.

The new trains have more seats than the former train sets and are generally more spacious with wider doors and corridors. In addition to greater comfort for the average traveller, the new train sets are also more accommodating to travellers with physical disabilities and include entrances at platform level, wheelchair places and adjusted toilets.

The train sets are environmentally up to date, with low noise levels and technology for brake energy recovery.

“Region Skåne is the Nordic region’s gateway to Europe and it is of great importance for the whole region that we have a well-functioning railway infrastructure that serves a large number of people. This can shift both business and leisure travellers towards greener forms of transport,” says Henrik Normann, NIB President and CEO.

Region Skåne is by law responsible for public transportation in the region and currently connects 46 villages and cities in the region through six different railway routes.
