Project

The loan has been provided to Sparebanken Sogn og Fjordane (SSF) for onlending to environmental projects and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in western Norway.

The loan will be lent to SMEs in e.g. agriculture, aquaculture and general industries. It is expected that 30-50% of the loan would be allocated to projects meeting the requirements under NIB’s environmental mandate.

Sparebanken Sogn og Fjordane (SSF) is the largest savings bank in Sogn og Fjordane and the 8th largest in Norway. SSF offers retail and corporate customers banking, financing, insurance, savings, pensions and payment services. The bank has 13 branches and 20 bank-in-shop agreements in Sogn og Fjordane.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

The project will alleviate credit constraints for small and medium sized companies and facilitate productivity growth. All projects financed should fulfil NIB’s mandate criteria for SMEs.

SMEs contribute to a considerable share in aggregate output and employment in NIB’s Nordic and Baltic member country area. Improving access to financing that raise productivity can therefore increase the competitive pressure and efficiency on the market.

Part of the loan will finance electrified ferries and energy efficiency in buildings.

Sustainability summary

Projects financed through a financial intermediary are required to fulfil the sustainability requirements defined in NIB’s Sustainability Policy and Guidelines. SSF will ensure that necessary environmental permits and concessions are in place for each of the financed projects.
