Project

The loan totalling EUR 40 million has been provided for financing the acquisition of a controlling stake in a specialty paper mill in Jacarei, Brazil, which is one of the world’s most modern and competitive eucalyptus pulp producers with a production capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per year. The joint venture will be part of Ahlstrom’s specialty papers segment serving mainly the labelling applications and certain flexible packaging markets. Currently, the majority of the paper production is targeted to the local markets, and Ahlstrom aims to expand the customer base by utilising its global sales network. Ahlstrom is a major global manufacturer of high performance fibre-based materials. Ahlstrom-made specialty papers are used in a large variety of everyday products, such as filters, wipes, flooring, labels, and tapes. Ahlstrom has 6,200 employees at sales offices and production facilities in more than 20 countries world-wide.

Sustainability summary

Ahlstrom’s acquisition of the Jacarei specialty papers mill does not give rise to significant changes in the mill’s environmental performance. No liabilities for historically environmental impacts have been identified and the acquired facilities are operated in accordance with local environmental requirements. As part of the acquisition, it is expected that an environmental management system is to be implemented at the paper production facility.
