Project
The loan programme is provided for onlending to small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) investment projects in different sectors and projects with environmental benefits in Finland.
The objective of the lending facility is to alleviate credit constraints faced by smaller businesses and promote productivity growth. The majority of Oma Säästöpankki’s corporate clients belong to the SME sector. The bank finances projects e.g. within light industry, transportation and logistics, agriculture and forestry, and construction.
The funds for the programme are further earmarked for projects that generate positive environmental effects, such as renovation measures that increase the energy efficiency of buildings.
Oma Säästöpankki Oyj is a Finnish independent savings bank with approximately 125,000 customers. Oma Säästöpankki has 44 offices in eight counties. Its registered office is in Seinäjoki, western Finland, and the head office is located in Lappeenranta, eastern Finland.
Fulfilment of NIB's mandate
Projects that qualify for funding under the programme are required to fulfil NIB’s eligibility criteria for financial intermediary lending, as well as its Sustainability Policy and Guidelines.
SMEs account for the largest share of economic activities in NIB’s member area, but the limited availability of financing creates comparative disadvantages. Improved access to financing is expected to increase competitive pressure and productivity growth.
Environmental projects are expected to enhance the environment, for instance by contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions and a decrease in the discharge of nutrients into waters.
Sustainability summary
Oma Säästöpankki will screen and approve projects that are to receive funding under the NIB-financed loan facility. Oma Säästöpankki is assessed as being capable of evaluating the potential environmental and social impact of its on-lending business in accordance with NIB’s requirements. The sustainability assessment of all potential category A and B projects will be carried out by NIB.
