The loan has been provided for the construction and property management of a new hospital building in Espoo, southern Finland. The new building will be located next to an existing hospital campus. The construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
The second largest city in Finland with a population of 250,000, Espoo is located next to the capital city of Helsinki. Espoo is a home to the headquarters of approximately 400 multinational companies.
The project will increase the productivity of the Espoo hospital both in terms of health outcomes and volume of treatment episodes, which are expected to increase conciderably in the coming decades due to aging population.
The City of Espoo has in place the environmental requirements and principles for the new hospital. Concerns related to nearby sensitive areas were addressed during the appraisal of the revision of the city plan which is now in force. The contractor is also required to draw up pollution prevention and construction waste management plans before beginning the project.
