The 8-year-maturity loan totalling EUR 35 million is aimed at financing Telekom Srbija's (TS) investments in the development of its networks in Serbia and Montenegro. The investment programme for 2007-2012 includes the build-out of the fixed line network and a capacity increase in the mobile network. Nordic telecom equipment producers are TS's largest suppliers of 3G/UMTS and 2G/GSM technologies. TS is Serbia's majority state-owned telecom operator. It has over 7 million mobile and fixed-line customers.
The extension and capacity increase of the existing telecommunications network in urban and rural areas will have insignificant environmental impacts. The procedure for obtaining permission for the installation of base stations and transmission towers is detailed and includes measurements of electromagnetic radiation from the installation. The company is committed to using only the best quality equipment, which will allow for lower energy consumption.
