Project

The EUR 55 million has been provided to build two multi-tenant office buildings, one in Helsinki and another in Stockholm. The projects comply with the EU Green Building programme and have the second highest BREEAM certification level.

The voluntary European Union’s Green Building classification is given to non-residential buildings that consume at least 25% less energy than current standard norms. BREEAM, the leading Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method in Europe, considers the climate impact of new buildings from a lifecycle perspective.

NCC is one of the leading construction and property development companies in the Nordic region, with operations in the Baltic countries, Russia and Germany.  The group has 17,500 employees. NCC is headquartered in Solna, Sweden, and listed on the Nasdaq OMX Exchange Stockholm.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

The project may raise the value of the company’s products, and contribute to strengthening its market position in all markets. It may also have a positive demonstration effect of aiming at higher energy efficiency standards, supporting higher productivity. By developing buildings and offering these buildings to the market a resource-efficient solution is a viable option for clients and tenants.

Sustainability summary

The overarching environmental benefit of the project is the promotion of a sustainable building practice. Today the building and housing sector accounts for a good 40% of total energy consumption in the EU. Increased sustainable building has the potential of lowering the overall energy use.

The new buildings are expected to have an energy demand between 30-33% below limits set in national legislation. The design will minimise the use of water with water saving fittings. The indoor materials will be designed to meet higher than statutory environmental and health requirements. NCC AB has a certified Environmental Management System ISO 14001.
