Project

The EUR 10 million loan has been provided for the acquisition of the UK based consultant company Gifford.

The acquisition is a strong strategic fit with Ramboll’s current business in the UK. The two companies are complementary in terms of clients and services. Gifford brings new know-how and expertise to Ramboll, especially from the infrastructure sector in areas such as bridges and roads, which Ramboll may make use of in the planned Femern link between Denmark and Germany.

Ramboll is a leading engineering, design and consultancy company founded in Denmark in 1945. The company employs close to 10,000 experts, with a strong presence in Northern Europe, Russia, India and the Middle East. With more than 200 offices in 23 countries, Ramboll emphasises local experience combined with a global knowledge base.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

The acquisition of Gifford is a part of Ramboll’s strategy to increase its international presence. It will enable Ramboll to grow and strengthen its competitiveness, not only in the international market, but in the Nordic market as well. There is high demand for engineering and management consultancy in the Nordic market and Ramboll does not have sufficient staff and labour force with the right qualifications in the Nordic countries. Gifford will enable further growth in the Nordic countries by providing much needed know-how, thus enhancing Ramboll’s operations in the Nordic market.

Sustainability summary

Due to the nature of Gifford’s operations, the risk for environmental liabilities associated with the acquisition is low.
