NIB's loan programme will finance environmental projects complying with NIB's mandate within various sectors. The financing is aimed at improving the environmental situation in China through pollution abatement and the application of environment-friendly technologies.
NIB will cooperate with the Ministry of Finance and provincial governments to identify projects of mutual interest. Potential projects could, for instance, target climate change and improve energy efficiency, be implemented within the renewable energy sector, or be used for wastewater treatment and the treatment of hazardous substances.
The Ministry of Finance will entrust onlending to the subprojects through ten major Chinese banks, including the Export-Import Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Chinese Construction Bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Bank of China.
The environmental impacts of the individual projects are limited and manageable on the basis of the small to medium-sized scale of expected subprojects and the sectors the clients operate in. In the sectors proposed, Nordic/Baltic technologies represent the state-of-the-art in reliability, efficiency and low environmental impacts.
