Project

The loan programme totalling USD 60 million has been provided for financing projects of mutual interest to Brazil and NIB’s member countries. Each tranche of the loan has a term of approximately 10 years. This is the third loan programme to BNDES. The financing will be allocated to projects compliant with NIB’s mandate in sectors such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity generation and transmission as well as investments in infrastructure such as public transport and other projects with a strong environmental content.

BNDES was established 1952 and is a 100% state-owned federal public company associated with the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. Its main objective is to provide long term financing that contribute to the development of the country and improved competitiveness of the Brazilian economy.

Sustainability summary

BNDES has an environmental policy and internal environmental procedures in place for their credit appraisal. BNDES is also a signatory to the United Nations Program for Environment Financial Initiative (UNEP FI), the International Declaration of Financial Institutions on Environment and Sustainable Development and the Green Protocol – Commitment Letter for Sustainable Development.
