NIB signs loan with Skanska for greener buildings in Sweden and Finland

18.3.2011 Press release

NIB and Sweden’s Skanska Financial Services AB have signed a loan totalling EUR 100 million for financing environmentally- and energy-efficient construction of office buildings.

The 7-year-maturity loan will be used for financing Skanska’s investments in office buildings, built according to LEED Platinum and EU GreenBuilding certifications.

The new, green office buildings under the investment project will be located in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo in Sweden.

“With this environmental loan, NIB is helping Skanska in developing economically attractive green solutions for its customers, while strengthening a major Nordic construction company’s competitiveness as a green builder,” says Johnny Åkerholm, President and CEO of NIB.

LEED is an evaluation of a building’s energy savings, water efficiency, improved indoor environment, site location and responsible use of materials. EU GreenBuilding is a programme for energy efficiency in non-residential buildings.

Skanska is one of the world’s largest companies for construction-related services and project development, and is the first Nordic construction company to introduce the LEED international environment certification system. All of the company’s new commercial real estate projects as well as new premises for its own operations will be LEED-certified.

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is the common international financial institution of the eight Nordic and Baltic countries. NIB provides long-term financing to the energy, environmental, transport, logistics and communications, and innovation sectors for projects that strengthen competitiveness and enhance the environment. NIB has the highest possible credit rating, AAA/aaa, with the leading rating agencies Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s.
