Sweden makes new contribution to energy and environmental projects via NIB

The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has contributed 6 million Swedish crowns for energy and environmental projects, in close cooperation with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB), in order to promote strategic project export. The contribution is targeted towards the Baltic Sea region, new EU members, Ukraine and the western Balkans as well as other strategic markets.

“Through our cooperation with NIB, Sweden can offer the countries with which we cooperate help in developing important infrastructure projects from the proposal stage to financing.”

“This is particularly true in areas where Sweden has world-class expertise, such as the treatment of emissions, waste management, increasing energy efficiency, among others,” says Minister Björling.

NIB prioritises projects with environmental benefits, in line with its mission emphasising the Bank’s role in enhancing competitiveness and the environment.

“We welcome this initiative. We want to contribute actively to environmental projects, especially in the Baltic Sea region,” says NIB’s President and CEO, Johnny Åkerholm.

Minister Björling visited NIB on Friday, 18 January. She discussed with Johnny Åkerholm deepening Sweden’s cooperation with NIB in the framework of Baltic Sea environmental projects and the use of technical assistance trust funds.

NIB is a multilateral financial institution headquartered in Helsinki that finances private and public projects in and outside its member countries. NIB is owned by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
