Sweden doubles contribution to BSAP Fund

Sweden is increasing its contribution to the Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund (BSAP Fund) from EUR 4.5 million to EUR 9 million.

The increase of the contribution was announced by Anders Carlgren, Minister of the Environment of Sweden, at the at the Baltic Sea Action Summit in Helsinki yesterday.

“The NIB/NEFCO technical assistance fund is available to countries in the region to speed up the activities of the Baltic Sea Action Plan. Sweden now increases the contribution to the fund,” said Mr Carlgren.

The Baltic Sea Action Plan was adopted by the HELCOM member countries in 2007. The aim of the plan is to restore the good ecological status of the Baltic marine environment by 2021. To speed up the implementation of the plan the BSAP Fund was set up in 2009. NIB and NEFCO, both having a long-term engagement in the Baltic Sea region and strong environmental mandates, are joint managers of the fund.
