NIB lends to Eviny’s EV charging infrastructure and hydropower upgrades
NIB has signed a 5-year loan agreement with energy company Eviny AS to co-finance its investments in expanding vehicle charging infrastructure and upgrading hydropower plants.
The EUR 100 million loan will co-finance Eviny’s investments aimed at enhancing electrical vehicle customers’ charging experience in Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
Eviny will install approximately 3,000 chargers with capacities ranging from 200 kW to 400 kW, of which half will be in Germany.
In addition, Eviny is investing in upgrading six hydropower plants in Norway, most of which have reached the end of their technical and economic lifespans. These improvements will ensure continued operation and an increased energy output of 21.6 GWh per year.
“This helps fund an important drive to electrify transport both in Norway and internationally. In addition, we are upgrading hydropower plants in Western Norway,” says Øystein Fossen Thorud, CFO at Eviny.
Patrik Marckert, Head of Project & Structured finance at NIB, says : “By financing Eviny’s EV charging infrastructure, we’re accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy and strengthening the region’s long-term competitiveness.”
Eviny is based in Bergen and ranks among Norway’s largest renewable energy groups. It owns 39 hydropower plants and two wind farms, generating approximately 9 TWh annually, enough for about 560,000 homes. It also owns a fast-growing EV-charging network. Eviny is owned by Statkraft, 17 western Norwegian municipalities and to locale power utilities, employing about 1,300 people.
