NIB finances electricity grid investments in Trøndelag, Norway

NIB) and Tensio AS have signed an 8-year maturity loan agreement of NOK 850 million to finance electricity network investments in Trøndelag County, Norway.

The approximately EUR 78.9 million loan will finance part of Tensio’s 2026 grid investment programme, which includes upgrades and expansions of regional and distribution electricity networks across Trøndelag. The programme comprises transformer station upgrades, network reinforcements, cable investments and customer connection projects aimed at increasing grid capacity, strengthening reliability and supporting future electrification and development of the region.

Key investments planned for 2026 include the installation of 215 MW of additional transformer capacity in the regional grid, construction of new 132 kV regional-grid infrastructure, approximately 153 km of new distribution network, and grid connections for around 1,531 new customers.

Tensio AS is Norway’s third-largest electricity distribution system operator by number of customers. The company owns and operates regional and distribution electricity networks in Trøndelag County and is owned by TrønderEnergi (40%), NTE (40%) and KLP (20%).
