NIB endorses initiative to harmonise green bond impact reporting

A working group of eleven international financial institutions (IFIs), including NIB, has prepared a joint initiative to develop a framework for harmonised impact reporting on projects financed with the proceeds of green bonds.
Developed by project assessment and capital market experts from all the involved IFIs, the initiative reflects requests by the investor community for more transparency as well as the conclusions of the 2015 Green Bond Principles, internationally recognised set of guidelines for transparency and disclosure in the green bond market.
The initiative proposes core indicators for two sectors—energy efficiency and renewable energy, and it also includes reporting templates. The involved IFIs acknowledge the importance of including other sectors in the future framework for harmonised impact reporting.
Global green bond issuance has reached USD 40 billion to date in 2015, a fourfold increase in just two years.
“NIB is supporting the development of the green bond market and welcoming close cooperation among international financial institutions. We believe that this initiative is a step towards the harmonisation of impact reporting in the green bond market, because transparency and accountability are crucial for its further growth”, says Lars Eibeholm, Vice-President and Head of Treasury at NIB.
The green bond reporting harmonisation initiative is endorsed by the following eleven IFIs: African Development Bank (AfDB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij voor Ontwikkelingslanden (FMO), and NIB.
