Loans to Latvian hospitals
On 1 November, NIB signed agreements on long-term loans to four hospitals and the Riga Stradina University in Latvia. The total amount of loans is EUR 18 million.
The hospital are situated in Latvia’s small towns of Ainazi, Akniste, Ludza and Strenci. The investment projects in the hospitals and the university is part of a large-scale programme for the modernisation of Latvia’s health care sector.
“NIB supports the modernisation of the social infrastructure necessary for Latvia’s further sustainable and balanced economic development. A strong social infrastructure is one of the key prerequisites for better living standards and the competitiveness of the country’s economy,” says Johnny Åkerholm, NIB President and CEO.
The health care sector is prioritised in the Baltic countries which became NIB’s members in 2005. The governments of the new member countries are committed to restructuring their health care sectors. The Bank has provided a similar long-term loan to the North Estonian Regional Hospital in Tallinn earlier this year.
