On 16 July 2011, NIB President Johnny Åkerholm spoke at the Chydenius Free-Trade Seminar, a prominent discussion forum organised by the Anders Chydenius Foundation in Kokkola, Finland.

Mr Åkerholm urged the European Union to regain its credibility. He offered his view on the causes and consequences of what he called “the evident crumbling of the economic and political foundation of the Union.”

“The economic situation in Europe is, despite the decisions made regarding Greece, more critical than it has ever been since the Second World War. The EU has been forced to breach its own rules and agreements when dealing with the crisis. This has undermined the credibility of the EU,” said Mr Åkerholm.

The Chydenius Free-Trade Seminar is a regular annual event gathering Finnish experts, bankers and politicians to share their views on the future of the free-market economy.
