Baltic membership in NIB

The Bank’s owners have appointed a Nordic working group with the task of preparing the matter further. The chairman of the working group, Director General Kurt A. Hall (Swedish Ministry of Finance) and NIB’s President and CEO Jón Sigurðsson have visited the Finance Ministers of all three Baltic countries to discuss the membership. At present, the working group is preparing a proposal for broad terms for the Baltic countries’ membership. The proposal will be presented at the Prime Ministers’ meeting in Oslo in October 2003 where Nordic and Baltic Prime Ministers are expected to meet.
