NIB has provided the loan to Swedish airport operator Swedavia AB, a key infrastructure provider for the aviation sector in Sweden, to help cope with the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic has strongly affected air travel. During the ten first months of 2020, Swedavia’s ten airports had 9.46 million passengers, a decrease of 72% compared to the 34.30 million passengers it had during the same period one year ago.
Airports are widely considered critical infrastructure and key drivers of local, regional and national economies and communities.
In 2017, NIB signed a ten-year SEK 2 billion loan with Swedavia to co-finance a new pier at Terminal 5 at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Swedavia AB operates and develops ten airports in the country, and is in charge of all commercial airport operations. The company is fully owned by the Swedish state.
