Project

The loan has been provided to Sabiedrība ar ierobežotu atbildību WPR2 (SIA WPR2) for the construction and operation of a 112 MW onshore wind farm in Latvia. The EUR 28 million loan supports the country’s transition to clean energy and is eligible under the InvestEU Clean Energy Transition Framework.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

The project will increase Latvia’s renewable energy generation capacity, and the estimated annual output of 283 GWh (P90) will significantly strengthen the country’s energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The investment supports the diversification of Latvia’s energy mix and helps address the regional shortfall in wind power development. The project is expected to result in significant CO₂ reductions.

Impact indicators related to the loan:

  • Annual production GWh
  • Production capacity MW
  • Levelised cost of electricity (LCOE), EUR/MWh

Sustainability summary

The project is located outside protected areas and complies with relevant national permitting and distance requirements. Measures are in place to minimise environmental impacts during construction and operation, including seasonal restrictions, bird and bat protection systems, and turbine controls for noise and flicker. The project is aligned with the requirements of the EU Taxonomy.

Sustainability proofing has been conducted in accordance with the InvestEU Fund requirements, and a summary can be found here.
