Project

The 20-year maturity loan, totalling EUR 27 million, has been provided to finance the acquisition of a school centre, to be leased to the city of Tampere, Finland.

The greenfield project encompasses the building of a new school centre in the district of Vuores, located in Tampere. The centre with a capacity of 1,200 pupils will be a pilot project for low energy consumption in the region. In addition to an elementary school, the centre will also include a pre-school, a day-care centre and a healthcare centre.

SEB Leasing Oy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), and the subsidiary is a part of SEB Merchant Group. The lessee, the City of Tampere, is the third largest city in Finland, and the Pirkanmaa region is one of the most rapidly developing regions in Finland.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

Improved access to education is seen as an important factor in enhancing the competitiveness of a society. The Vuores school centre will be the first school facility in the new district and hence contribute to a well-functioning elementary school education in the area. In addition, the first healthcare centre will be located in the district, and improved access to healthcare is considered as another important enhancer of competitiveness, along with education.

Sustainability summary

Vuores school centre will be located in a new residential area. The projects does not have any significant environmental impacts. The Vuores school centre serves as a pilot facility for low energy construction in Tampere and will have demonstration projects on renewal energy.
