Project

NIB is providing the loan for the construction of an onshore wind farm in Pomeranian Voivodeship, about 100 kilometres east of Gdansk, Poland.

The project includes the design, construction and operation of a medium-size wind farm consisting of 29 turbines. The Nordex turbines will be of two different types with unit capacity ranging from 3.00 MW to  3.6 MW, but with different hub heights and rotor diameters. The installed capacity of the Pomerania wind park is 94 MW. The usage of the turbines has been limited in this project in order to minimise noise and other impacts on residents, as well to protect birds and bats.

The project includes the electrical equipment, such as internal array cabling and transformers. It also comprises the building of foundations for the turbines, ancillary buildings and access roads.

The loan project does not include the connection of the wind farm to the high voltage network. The network operator will provide this through a new substation.

The project owner estimates that the project will cost approximately PLN 558 million (EUR 131 million).

Construction work started on the site in July 2019. Starting in May 2020, the windmills will be erected, with commissioning expected to commence in November 2020. The substantial completion of the wind turbines is expected by the end of 2020. Commercial operation is estimated to commence in 2021.

The Pomerania Wind Park sp. z o.o. is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established for the construction and operation of the Pomerania Wind Farm project. The owner of the SPV is UAB “Ignitis renewables” which is controlled by international energy company Ignitis Group.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

Wind power is one of the most sustainable sources of electricity available. The project will add the renewable energy to the grid and indirectly contribute to lower CO2 emissions by crowding out electricity generated with fossil fuels.

Indicators for the expected impact of the investment:

  • Avoided CO2 emissions: 120,000 t/a
  • Added renewable energy generation (P90): 300,100 MWh/a
  • Added wind energy generation capacity: 94 MW

Sustainability summary

The development and implementation of the Pomerania wind farm is in accordance with NIB’s sustainability policy and guidelines.
