Project
The loans have been provided to finance two solar power farms in Lithuania, and an uncommitted accordion facility has been granted for a related battery energy storage system (BESS).
Project Izabelinė involves the development of a 91 MWp solar farm, along with related civil and electrical infrastructure in the Ignalina Municipality in eastern Lithuania.
Project Lieponys comprises a 91 MWp solar farm and associated infrastructure in the Trakai District Municipality, southwest of Vilnius.
Construction of both projects will begin in July 2025, with the solar farms expected to reach commercial operation in July 2027.
The loans are supported under the InvestEU programme.
Green Genius is a Lithuanian renewable energy company with a current portfolio of around 2.7 GW. UAB GG LTU S5 & UAB GG LTU S9 are SPVs established by the company for the construction and operation of the respective solar farms.

Productivity
Lithuania has seen rapid growth in solar power capacity, reaching nearly 1,790 MW by January 2025, up from approx. 260 MW in 2022.
The projects further support diversification away from fossil fuels and imported electricity. Solar power generation in the Baltics is particularly important during the summer period, coinciding with the peak of solar power generation. This is due to the lower availability of hydro generation and combined heat and power (CHP), as well as the usual maintenance works on interconnections.
Environment
The combined added generation of Project Izabelinė and Project Lieponys is around 100 GWh annually.
Together, the projects will reduce CO2 emissions by an 67,000 a year. Moreover, the park in Ignalina plans to include a battery energy storage system (BESS) with 18 MW capacity.
Impact indicators in relation to the investments:
- Solar energy generation, GWh / year
- Solar energy installed capacity, MW
- Battery capacity, MW/MWh
Sustainability summary
Solar power is one of the cleanest methods of generating electricity. The necessary environmental and construction permits for the projects are in place.
A sustainability proofing has been carried out in accordance with the InvestEU Fund requirements.
