NIB celebrating its 40th anniversary on 2 November

To celebrate its 40th anniversary the Bank is hosting a two-hour seminar, “Financing the Future”, in connection with the annual session of the Nordic Council and the meeting of Nordic–Baltic Prime Ministers in Copenhagen.

The event will be opened by Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipilä, followed by NIB President & CEO Henrik Normann. The keynote speech will be delivered by Mariana Mazzucato, Professor in the Economics of Innovation at the University of Sussex. The seminar will be closed by Latvia’s Minister of Finance Dana Reizniece-Ozola.

  Capital alignment  

Member countries to adjust their shares in authorised capital

NIB's Board of Governors has made a unanimous decision to proceed with the adjustment and alignment of the Bank’s authorised capital and member countries' guarantees for project investment and environmental loan facilities. The change is expected to be implemented by the end of January 2017.





MAX IV Lab: A dream building for unique X-ray research

This summer, a unique X-ray accelerator facility, the MAX IV Lab, was inaugurated in Lund in southern Sweden. Every year, thousands of scientists from all over the world will be coming here to study matter. The new lab is a resource-efficient and internationally certified green building. To put it short: it is a dream come true.

World’s most striking power plant wins architecture prize

Just south of the Arctic Circle lies Øvre Forsland, the world’s most striking hydropower plant. The architectural design is inspired by the Northern Lights. Building spectacular power plants is a strategy the Norwegian power company Helgeland Kraft has chosen to showcase the underlying technology.

NIB invites green bond investors to “kick the wheels”

The Bank have invited NIB environmental bond investors to visit projects they helped finance in Finland. The investors visited Vantaan Energia’s waste-to-energy plant and S Group’s energy-efficient grocery distribution centre, which utilises geothermal and condensing heat.

NIB buys green bonds in cooperation with arranging banks

NIB has agreed to cooperate with Handelsbanken, Nordea and SEB as arrangers for green bond issuing. The cooperation helps NIB to support the green bond market and develop the financing of environmental projects.

Baltic Sea: Clearer waters in the east

The marine environment of the Gulf of Finland is slowly but steadily improving. This is the main conclusion of a a 300-page report published by the Finnish Environment Institute this autumn. “The gulf is recovering in the east”, says Mika Raateoja, one of the authors of the report.
