NIB-financed Horns Rev 2 set in operation

Horns Rev 2, the world’s largest offshore wind turbine park, was inaugurated on 17 September. The construction of Horns Rev 2, owned by Danish DONG Energy A/S, was co-financed with a EUR 160 million loan from NIB.

Horns Rev 2 has been built 30 kilometres off the Danish coast in the North Sea. The new wind farm’s 91 wind turbines will generate green power corresponding to the annual power consumption of 200,000 households. The power generated by Horns Rev 2 will be purchased by a series of public and private enterprises that have entered into so-called ‘climate partnerships’ with DONG Energy.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
