Head of Financial Institutions

NIB is seeking a Head of Financial Institutions to join our team in Helsinki. Apply by 31 December 2022.

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is an international financial institution jointly owned by the governments of Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The Bank promotes sustainable growth of its member countries by providing long-term financing based on sound banking principles for projects that improve productivity and benefit the environment. The Bank finances investments in the corporate or public sector, as well as investments by small and medium-sized enterprises through financial intermediaries. The Bank’s role is also to assist its members in times of economic crises and to provide additional value compared to other financiers.

While maintaining its focus on activities in the member countries, the Bank also finances projects in other markets where a mutual interest is identified.

NIB has some 200 employees, total assets of approximately EUR 42 billion and the outstanding lending portfolio amounts to some EUR 24 billion, whereof EUR 2.5 billion is lending to Financial Institutions. The Bank has the highest possible credit rating, AAA/Aaa, from leading rating agencies. NIB has its headquarters in Helsinki, Finland and the working language of the Bank is English.

The Treasury and Finance department is now seeking a new Head of Financial Institutions reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Head of Treasury and Finance. The position is based at the Bank’s headquarters in Helsinki, Finland.

Head of Financial Institutions

The Head of Financial Institutions will be member of the Treasury and Finance Management team and will also take part of meetings in the management group of the Lending department.

As Head of Financial Institutions, you will be responsible for developing the Financial Institutions team (currently 6 employees) and continue to drive financial performance of the team. You will interact with other front office teams in Treasury and Finance as well as interact with the Lending organisation. In addition, you will be responsible for driving innovation, sustainability, and development within the team and for collaboration with other parts of NIB. As a person you can balance leadership with own operational tasks and you have strong analytical skills.

The role will involve some travelling to clients and prospects in the member countries.

Further, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership skills with focus on developing people
  • 3-5 years’ experience as manager
  • Background from financial sector, preferably experience in dealing with financial institutions
  • Hands-on banking knowledge with analytical angle
  • Good understanding of credit risk analysis, credit rating processes in a bank and risk models
  • A purpose-driven approach and with good understanding of sustainability matters
  • Business mindset and focus on profitability
  • Change mindset with openness towards adjusting the status quo
  • Drive and not be afraid of taking initiative
  • Good communicative skills and be used to interact with stakeholders outside own unit and present in front of executives
  • A Master’s degree in finance, economics or similar
