Project

The loan has been provided to the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for onlending to projects complying with NIB’s mandate in African countries.

Eligible projects include investments mainly within infrastructure, energy, telecom, industrial parks and special economic zones, roads, railways and harbours. Further, the loan facility will support export projects including service and equipment deliveries from NIB’s member countries. Each allocation under the facility will be assessed separately.

Afreximbank is a supranational financial institution established in 1993 by African governments, private and institutional investors, and non-African financial institutions and private investors. The Bank’s purpose is to promote and expand African trade. Headquartered in Cairo, Afreximbank operates branch offices in Harare, Abuja, Abidjan and Nairobi.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

Projects eligible for financing under the facility will be assessed for their impact on productivity and the environment according to NIB’s criteria. An environmental and social due diligence will be carried out for each financed project.

Sustainability summary

All loan allocations are required to comply with NIB’s Sustainability Policy and Guidelines. NIB will perform sustainability reviews of all projects proposed.
