Project

The loan programme has been provided for financing environmental projects and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Since 1999, NIB has concluded twelve loan programmes with Ringkjøbing Landbobank, totalling DKK 1.3 billion (EUR 175 million) for financing renewable energy and SME projects, which include investments in R&D, tangible capital or ICT.

Ringkjøbing Landbobank, established in 1886, is a full-service regional bank that ranks among the 15 largest banking groups in Denmark in terms of total assets.

Fulfilment of NIB's mandate

Competitiveness: Improved access to financing is expected to support productivity growth in SMEs.

Environment: A substantial part of the loan programme’s funds will be used for projects of renewable energy production, such as wind turbine parks. The negative environmental impact of land-based wind parks is very limited, related mainly to the construction phase, and is fully reversible once the wind park is dismantled. The projects financed by the programme are expected to use proven technology with a low risk of failure or unexpected outcomes.

Sustainability summary

Wind turbine projects normally have a limited impact on the environment during the construction period. The inhabitants in the vicinity of the wind turbine can be disturbed by noise.
