NIB finances research into water efficiency

NIB has signed a loan agreement with Finnish water chemistry company Kemira Oyj. The loan, totalling EUR 40 million, will be used to finance research at the newly established Centre for water efficiency excellence.

The centre aims to develop new technology to enhance efficient use and reuse of water, as well as create more sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for the water intensive industry. By concentrating water research in one place, the centre seeks to develop unique water competence in Finland and help create new business opportunities for companies in the environmental technology sector.

“Water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource that needs to be protected. As a result of the research and development activities, Kemira can offer competitive solutions and new technology to reduce water usage and increase recycling and energy efficiency within the water-intensive industry,” says Johnny Åkerholm, the Bank’s President and CEO.

Kemira is a global water chemistry company, focused on bringing innovation and expertise to the water-intensive industries. By offering water quality and quantity management solutions, it seeks to improve its customers’ energy, water and raw material efficiency.
