NIB finances green logistics facility in Sweden

NIB has signed an 8-year loan agreement with Swedish real estate company Catena AB (publ), for a new BREEAM certified green logistics facility in Jönköping, Sweden.

The SEK 430 million loan with Catena AB (publ) will finance the development of Catena’s green logistics facility in Jönköping. Catena AB has entered into a long-term lease agreement with Elgiganten for the 86,600-square-metre facility. The project, situated in the strategic transport hub of Jönköping, will bolster Catena’s portfolio but also reinforce the region’s capacity to provide next-day deliveries to Finland, Denmark, and Norway.

The logistics property, which is set to be certified with BREEAM Excellent and to become Sweden’s first large WELL Core certified logistics facility, will exemplify the Company’s commitment to environmental and social sustainable development. Among other things, Catena plans to install solar panels on the roof, enabling the property to generate its own electricity and become a net producer during certain periods of the year.

With a total investment of SEK 862 million, including the land acquisition, the green logistics facility is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024. This expansion will enable Elgiganten to relocate its central distribution facility from the Czech Republic to Jönköping. The move is expected to improve customer service, shorten lead times, and significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with kitchen transport.

“We view our newly established business relationship with the Nordic Investment Bank very positively. That our work and our long-term commitments linked to sustainability attract more funding sources is in line with our strategy. This transaction broadens our investor base, increases the capital tie-up and, above all, it supports our overall goal of reducing our carbon footprint to achieve net zero by 2030,” says David Silvesjö, Chief Treasury Officer Catena.

“Catena’s commitment to creating a sustainable logistics facility in Jönköping sets a new standard for the industry. By prioritising cleaner and more energy-efficient logistics, they are leading the way towards a greener future. We are proud to support their vision and contribute to the development of a more sustainable logistics sector in Sweden,” stated André Küüsvek, President & CEO of NIB.
