NIB in 2013: Strong results despite stagnant markets

Despite the stagnant investment climate, NIB recorded a EUR 217m profit in 2013. New loans were allocated to projects relevant to the competiveness and environment of the Nordic–Baltic region. Based on the financial results, NIB’s Board of Directors proposes EUR 55m being paid out as dividends to the member countries.

NIB finances bus hub and schools in Lahti, Finland

A new loan to the city of Lahti in southern Finland will help develop the public infrastructure with the purpose of facilitating passenger flows in the city's main transport hub and provide local communities with modern educational and service centres.


NIB-financed hydropower plant in Iceland starts production

The Icelandic energy company Landsvirkjun has launched a new hydropower plant in Búðarháls, southern Iceland. This is the first power plant being built in the country since the economic recession. The new plant is expected to produce 585 GWh of electricity annually.


Tartu hospital: We hope researchers will like it here

The University Hospital in Tartu, Estonia’s second largest city, is expanding. The investment will put the Tartu hospital on the international map as one of the most modern high-tech bases for medical education and research in the Nordic–Baltic region.

Nordic-Baltic grid needs significant investments

Bente Hagem of Norwegain Statnett and Jukka Ruusunen of Finnish Fingrid outline the priorities for the energy sector in the Nordic-Baltic region. Investments in the energy infrastructure and interconnections will facilitate reducing carbon emissions, which is a priority target for the region and the EU.
