NIB finances Boliden’s e-scrap recycling plant in Sweden

NIB has provided a loan totalling EUR 60 million to Sweden’s metal producer Boliden. The 8-year maturity loan will help to finance Boliden’s increased electronic scrap recycling capacity in Rönnskär, Sweden.   

Once the expansion is completed, the facility will nearly triple its capacity and process 120,000 tonnes of electronic scrap per year.

Extracting metals from e-scrap requires considerably less energy than extracting metals from ore. The main minerals in e-scrap are copper, zinc and precious minerals.  In addition to the important task of treating e-scrap in a safe manner, the project makes it possible for one of Europe’s leading metal producers to use the minerals hidden in the waste over and over again.
