Project

The 7-year-maturity loan totalling EUR 40 million has been provided for the financing of the newly established Center of Water Efficiency Excellence in Finland. The center aims to develop new technology to enhance efficient use and reuse of water.

The research, including targets for the cost effective cultivation of sea water into drinkable water, is expected to contribute to unique water competence in Finland as well as create new business opportunities for companies in the environmental technology sector. International cooperation with Kemira's business partners and academia is furthermore expected to generate productive spillover and demonstration effects for increased competitiveness.

Kemira is a global water chemistry company, focused on bringing innovation and expertise to the water-intensive industries. By offering water quality and quantity management solutions, it seeks to improve its customers' energy, water and raw material efficiency.

Environmental summary

Kemira's proposed project to invest in R&D activities has some positive environmental impacts. The positive environmental impacts are indirect: reduced water usage, as well as improved energy and material efficiency when new, more environmentally friendly products and customer specific solutions are introduced to the market.
