The EUR 100 million loan has been provided for the construction of four green office buildings in Poland meeting the requirements of the LEED and EU Green Building standards.
Skanska is constructing multi-tenant office buildings with a total area of 82,700 square metres in Warsaw (two buildings), Wroclaw and Poznan, Poland. The three projects are expected to consume at least 25% less energy and water than required by the national standards. This will make the projects compliant with both the highest certification level in LEED and the EU Green Building programme. The projects started in 2010 and are expected to be completed by 2014. The total project costs for the buildings will amount to EUR 212 million.
Skanska AB, a Swedish listed company, is one of the world's largest project development and construction groups. The group has 52,000 employees in selected home markets in Europe, the US and Latin America.
Skanska's investment in office buildings, compliant with voluntary building certification schemes, is being performed in accordance with the Bank's mandate.
In the projects, Skanska applies a design that minimises the use of energy and water. The indoor materials are designed to meet higher than statutory environmental and health requirements. Skanska uses criteria for air quality above the national standards. Skanska AB has a certified Environmental Management System ISO 14001. The company requires all subcontractors to have a valid environmental management system.
